Teaching Asia Network of the Carolinas
Teaching Asia Network of the Carolinas (TANC), formerly the North Carolina Teaching Asia Network (NCTAN), opens up the door to East Asia by providing free professional development seminars for K-12 teacher in North Carolina. These seminars are provided for teachers who are looking for a way to improve their curriculum on China, Hong Kong, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam. TANC is under the initiative of Columbia University’s Weatherhead East Asia Center.
Lending Library
We offer book sets for teachers looking to integrate Asia into their curriculum. These book sets can be borrowed for free. Topics range from the Silk Road to food.
Our K-12 and Community College Partners
UNC-Chapel Hill believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to gain global knowledge and participate in our globally interconnected world. To that end, the University has several established programs for K-12 and community colleges. These initiatives include World View, which specializes in professional development for educators; the Ackland Art Museum, which holds the largest Asian art collection in the Southeast U.S. and hosts Asia-related workshops and events; and Carolina Performing Arts, UNC’s official performing arts center bringing the world’s best artists to North Carolina.
