Transnational Korean Studies Graduate Student Awards
The Transnational Korean Studies Graduate Student Awards provide support to graduate students conducting highly innovative research with substantial content related to Korean or Korean diaspora studies. These awards also offer funding for travel to present research at academic conferences, workshops, and professional society meetings. The awards are administered by the Carolina Asia Center for the Korean Studies faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill, who anticipate making two awards annually.
Eligibility
You are eligible if:
- You are a graduate student in any master’s or doctoral program at UNC-Chapel Hill, and
- You are a fully enrolled, degree-seeking student in good standing with your program (enrollment is not required in the summer), and
- You are studying Korea or the Korean diaspora, and
- (For applications to support conference travel only) You have already applied for or received the Graduate School’s one-time Graduate Student Transportation Grant
Award Amounts
Up to $1,000
These awards are payable as a non-service stipend to UNC student accounts. The CAC is unable to provide guidance on whether receiving this funding will impact other aspects of a student’s funding package.
Application Requirements
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the annual funds are expended. There are still funds available for the 2024-25 academic year.

- A 1,000-word proposal
- Research budget and requested amount
For Conference Travel
- A 500-word presentation Abstract
- Proof of presentation at conference (invitation to present or copy of presentation schedule)
- Conference travel budget and requested amount
