Southeast Asia Grants from the project “Bringing Southeast Asia Home”
The Carolina Asia Center is proud to hold a grant for “Bringing Southeast Asia Home,” funded by the Henry Luce Foundation Initiative on Southeast Asia. This grant provides a number of funding opportunities for faculty (both from UNC-Chapel Hill and beyond). To see funding opportunities for students, please click here.
Proposals for funding are welcomed from UNC faculty and should be focused on one or more the eleven countries of Southeast Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam) or a Southeast Asian diaspora community.
Community-Faculty Southeast Asia Partnership Awards
Funded by Bringing Southeast Asia Home, an initiative sponsored by the Henry Luce Foundation Initiative on Southeast Asia, these funds are meant to sponsor activities that benefit both theoretical inquiry and community needs. Applications must be submitted by a community-faculty team that features at least one community member and one faculty member of any rank at any UNC system institution. Each award is in the amount of $5,000.
Faculty Research Awards for Southeast Asia
Funded by Bringing Southeast Asia Home, an initiative sponsored by the Henry Luce Foundation Initiative on Southeast Asia, these funds are intended to further research on Southeast Asia. Funds are available to UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and instructors of any rank. Applicants may request up to $10,000 per award and are required to justify expenses by submitting a detailed budget.
Research Expansion to Southeast Asia Awards
Funded by Bringing Southeast Asia Home, an initiative sponsored by the Henry Luce Foundation Initiative on Southeast Asia, these funds are intended to allow faculty whose research is located in a geographical domain outside of Southeast Asia to expand their work into the region or with populations associated with the region.
Southeast Asia Manuscript Publication Subvention Awards
Funded by Bringing Southeast Asia Home, an initiative sponsored by the Henry Luce Foundation Initiative on Southeast Asia, these funds are intended to assist UNC-Chapel Hill faculty and instructors in publishing books and manuscripts related to Southeast Asia. The funds may be used for the author’s mandatory contribution to the cost of book and manuscript publication, such as publication subsidies, professional indexing, editorial work, digital or interactive content, image and map reproduction, color plates and photos, permissions, and cover art.
UNC Faculty Awards for Southeast Asian Studies
Funded by Bringing Southeast Asia Home, an initiative sponsored by the Henry Luce Foundation Initiative on Southeast Asia, these awards are intended to further Southeast Asia focused projects conducted by faculty at any UNC system institution or North Carolina community college outside of UNC-Chapel Hill. Funds may be used for research, course development, manuscript publication subvention, community-facing projects, or any other activity that intellectually engages with Southeast Asia.
